Fine Chemistry and Biotechnology

layout_set_logo

This research group was created in 2007 under the name of Glycerol Chemistry. In April 2021, the name of the research group was changed to Fine Chemistry and Biotechnology. Glycerol (and also cardanol) chemistry remains a topic of interest and is a strength of the group. Moreover, the fine chemistry sector is responsible for supplying a country with strategic products for healthcare and food safety. The group’s mission is to develop cheaper and more efficient routes for preparing synthesis intermediates, as well as active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and agrochemicals through chemical synthesis and biotechnology. The group is focused on modernizing its laboratory infrastructure to create an ecosystem favorable to innovation in this strategic area for the country, and we seek to be a link between the university and companies interested in investing in research to make the country less dependent on imports of API and of agrochemicals.
