Professor Dênis Pires de Lima, from the Institute of Chemistry at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) and a researcher associated with SINTMOL, was recently featured by The Elsevier Foundation in its Alumni Spotlight series.

The feature highlights Prof. Dênis’s research on the sustainable use of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), an abundant agro-industrial residue. Over the years, his research has explored the transformation of CNSL into valuable products, from environmentally friendly compounds for mosquito control to the development of sustainable and multifunctional materials for the conservation, preservation, and recovery of historical and cultural heritage.

The work demonstrates how organic chemistry and renewable Brazilian resources can contribute to innovative solutions connecting sustainability, materials science, and cultural heritage preservation.
