Campo Grande hosted the VII Regional Meeting of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ) for the Midwest region on October 2–4, 2024, bringing together researchers, professors, and students to discuss scientific advances under the theme “Sustainability and Bioeconomy: The Fundamental Role of Chemistry.” Students from the Laboratory of Synthesis and Transformation of Organic Molecules (SINTMOL), which is affiliated with CIBSINT at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), stood out during the event, presenting research ranging from compound synthesis with potential therapeutic properties to green chemistry innovations.

The event, which drew hundreds of attendees from several regional universities, included a series of lectures, workshops, and scientific presentations. CIBSINT-SINTMOL students were able to share the findings of their research in poster sessions and oral presentations, highlighting the significance of regional science in the development of sustainable technology and innovative solutions for human and animal health.

Prof. Adilson Beatriz, coordinator of CIBSINT-SINTMOL, emphasized the importance of student engagement in such events, saying, “Student participation in scientific meetings like SBQ is critical for their academic and professional development.” In addition to the opportunity to communicate their findings to the scientific community, they are exposed to new ideas, technologies, and methodologies that enhance their understanding of science. It’s also a rare opportunity to network with scholars from different institutions, potentially leading to future partnerships.”

The work presented by CIBSINT-SINTMOL students supports the laboratory’s dedication to cutting-edge research and the creation of sustainable solutions, emphasizing chemistry’s role as a driver of innovation in the bioeconomy and sustainability.

Participation in the event not only highlights the quality of education and research developed at UFMS, but also encourages students to continue seeking solutions to current challenges, fostering knowledge exchange across various areas of chemistry, and strengthening the Midwest region’s scientific landscape.
